Make Yourself at Home 'Son'

Daisy Turnip writes.....

The teenage son of one of my closest friends is staying with us this week as he’s on work experience at hubby’s place of work.

On Sunday, as they were about to leave home to bring him down to our house, said friend phoned, asking if we had a spare portable TV teenage son could use so that he could bring his playstation with him. There’s currently a spare TV sitting in the garage, waiting to go back to uni with daughter in September. I said, ‘Sure, bring it down’.

Teenage lodger turned up and promptly asked for the TV, which we gave to him, but we couldn’t find the remote control. I told him to set up the playstation in our bedroom and he could use it in the evenings when he came home from work.

I went upstairs later that evening to find the monstrosity of the old portable TV (without the remote control) in our bedroom and sitting, ON A CHAIR, in the spare room, with new teenage lodger, was our fancy flash flat screen TV, now being used to play some car chasing playstation game. ‘Oh, you all settled in then? Good’ I said!

No Question Time in bed for me tomorrow night!

Kangaroo Juice

Daisy Turnip writes.....

Daughter has just set off on her driving lesson.

If I don’t watch her pull off, ‘I don’t care’ and if I do watch her pull off, ‘I make her nervous’!? As a parent of a teenage daughter, once you’ve accepted that fact that whatever you do is wrong, you’ve then got your baseline!

Anyway, I watched - and she showed me the technical kangaroo skills she’s developed over the last couple of months!!

Daughter's First Driving Lesson

My daughter turned 17 last week!! Arrgggh, I feel old.

We live in a village approx 10 miles from the closest town. Learning to drive is a big thing for my daughter - she knows i'm not going to keep driving into and out of town on a Friday and Saturday night when she starts clubbing!!

A few weeks before her 17th birthday her driving licence arrived. The pressure was on to book the driving lessons! Oh dear!! I went through the
Yellow Pages, spoke to friends and scoured the village magazine for driving instructors. I rang a few, requesting details about first time pass rates, hourly rates, car sizes (i don't want my daughter to learn to drive in a small car, to forever moan about big cars later on) etc. I finally came across the poor guy who I decided was going to teach my daughter to drive. I had a lengthy conversation with 'Steve' - my final words, after booking a block session of 12 one and a half hour sessions were, "Well, ok, many thanks, i can only wish you the very very best of luck with my daughter. If she does your head in or refuses to listen to you - i'm sorry, but it's your problem. Good luck" - he laughed, thinking i was joking. Oooh, if only he knew!! : )

Daughter had her first half and half lesson last Thursday. The instructor droppped her off in time, I then heard the sound of a car wheel spinning away.............!

Can't wait to see if he comes back next Wednesday for the 2nd lesson.
